Islamophobia is the scourge of our time, and one never knows when or where the next outbreak of this dreaded social pathology will erupt. It could be happening in your own city. My own town of Toronto is not free of this dark taint. For instance, in March 2016, Ayanle Hassan Ali walked into a Canadian military recruiting office in Toronto. A young man with no police record, he is alleged to have taken a knife to a young clerk and supposedly went after a uniformed female member of the Armed Forces. Suddenly, for no reason whatsoever, before he could explain himself, Mr. Ali was then jumped by a gang of young soldiers and savagely beaten. They believed that merely because he was wearing a jacket, he must also have a bomb vest on and undertook to beat him unconscious. Obviously, these hyper-aggressive men are all White Supremacists and this was an instance of rampant Islamophobia. ‘White Privilege’ run amok cannot explain a recent incident in one of Toronto’s Detention Centers. A young Muslim man, but lately returned from an innocent sabbatical in Syria, approached a group of young black men from some social group or other associated with amateur pharmaceutical sales. This young man is rumoured to have demanded the loyalty of these wayward youths, and mentioned that their families might come to harm if they failed to follow his pious and inspiring lead. In response to this generous social counselling, these confused and troubled youths poured a large quantity of hot coffee over him and beat him with the urn. More rampant Islamophobia! This very June, in a Canadian Tire in Scarborough, a young Muslim woman was innocently practicing her golf swing in the paint section. The fact that Rehab Dughmosh was wearing a Niqab and evidently praying “Allahu Akbar” as she swung was enough to incite an assault by several employees. Obviously mandatory counseling to prevent further outbreaks of Islamophobia will be needed for all Canadian Tire employees all across the country. Fortunately, Parliament is on top of this dire situation. Recent hearings after the passage of Motion M-103 in Parliament are clearly illustrating the resolve of the Liberal Party of Canada to ensure that the scourge of Islamophobia is never again witnessed in Canada. Disdaining the petty and obviously bigoted objections of many Canadians who are upset by M-103, our Parliament is leading the way in ensuring the safety of all its citizens. Never again, will our soldiers or troubled Black youths, or Canadian Tire employees dare to raise their hands against Muslims who are innocently practicing their faith as they interpret it. With this rigorous campaign to debar further episodes of Islamophobia, our Parliament is undoubtedly leading the way in insuring that we will not hear of Buddhism, Christianity, Hinduism, Judaism, Sikhism or other divisive creeds in our future.
